Carmelo Mario Licitra, M.D.
Born in Rome, Italy, graduated from University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL; received his Medical Degree from University of Florida - Gainesville; received his Infectious Disease training from Emory University, Atlanta, GA;and served active duty in the US Navy and Navy Reserve. He has been practicing medicine in the Orlando Area since 1988.  However, one look at Dr. Licitra’s medical credentials, and you know you’ve come to the right facility for travel-health consultation and protection. Dr. Licitra, a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine & Infectious Disease, is presently Chief of Medicine, Chairman of the Infection Control Committee, Chief of Subsection (infectious Disease) and Infectious Disease Teaching Attending Physician of the Orlando Regional Healthcare System. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor, Infectious Disease at University of Florida – Gainesville; Clinical Asst. Professor at Florida State University School of Medicine (Orlando Campus) and is Medical Director and Founder of both the Outpatient Antibiotic Therapy Infusion Program and TravelHealth (At Florida Infectious Disease Group). He is the GeoSentinal Medical Director of the Orlando Site of the CDC Emerging Infections Surveillance Project as well as a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine, the Infectious Disease Society of America, and the American Society of Tropical Medicine. Dr. Licitra has been published in the Journal of Infectious Disease, Annals of Neurology, Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, the Journal of Clincal Microbiology. Dr. Licitra was named as a Top Doctor  for 2008 and actually has been in the list several times. he is a pioneer of OPAT in the country.

 


Maria del Mar Rodriguez, M.D. 
Born in Spain and as a child her parents moved to Puerto Rico where she grew up. She obtained her bachelor degree in biology at the University of Puerto Rico alternating her free time with volunteer work at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Center.  Dr. Rodriguez completed her medical school degree at the Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine in Puerto Rico.  After graduation, she moved to New York, she did her Internal Medicine Residency at the State University of New York in Stony Brook and her fellowship at the University of Rochester’s Strong Memorial Hospital. During her fellowship training she was involved in bench and clinical research, working with Norwalk viruses and was involved in the investigation of a keratoconjunctivitis outbreak at a chronic care facility.  After completion of her fellowship, she joined a multi-specialty group (Medical Diagnostic Group) in New York.  She practiced at Horton Memorial Hospital (affiliated to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center), where she was involved in the infection control committee and subsequently served as the Infection Control Chairwoman.  In 2000, she moved to Orlando and joined Florida Infectious Diseases. Throughout her training and professional life, she has been involved in both medical student and resident’s clerkships.  She has also served in hospital committees. Dr. Rodriguez is board certified in Infectious Diseases and a member of professional societies such as:  American College of Physicians; Infectious Diseases Society of America and The Association for the Advancement of Wound Care. For the last years she has developed a passion for wound care and joined the Doctor Phillips Hospital Wound Care Clinic team.  She also has a special interest in tropical medicine and infection control, preparing didactic conferences for nursing homes and other medical settings.   She is fluent in English, Spanish and some Gaelic.  Non-professional interests include:  Ancient history, art appreciation and gardening.

 


Antonio Crespo, M.D. 
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and graduated from the Jose Maria Vargas School of Medicine at the Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas where he grew up. He returned to Philadelphia for his Internal Medicine residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he also served as Chief Medical Resident for one year. After completing his Infectious Diseases training at Temple University Hospital, where he was also a clinical instructor, he joined our group in 2002. Dr. Crespo is now a clinical instructor for Florida State University College of Medicine (Orlando campus), Assistant Professor at the new University of Central Florida College of Medicine and voluntary faculty member of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Orlando Health. He is member of several medical societies in the United States, including the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Florida Infectious Diseases Society and the Pan-American Medical Association of Central Florida. Dr. Crespo is also chair of the Antimicrobial and Utilization Subcommittee at Orlando Health and medical director of the Comprehensive Wound Care Center at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital. He was recognized as one of Orlando’s Top Doctors in 2008. He has been widely published and has presented at a number of annual medical conferences. He has an enthusiastic interest in Travel Medicine, antimicrobial stewardship, wound management and new therapies in the management of resistant organisms such as MRSA. He speaks fluent Spanish and English.

 


Roberto Rojas-Diaz, MD
Born in Havana, Cuba. He obtained his MD degree from Havana University Medical School and completed an Internal Medicince Residency at the University Hospital Calixto Garcia, Havana. He then spent fourteen months in Zambia, Africa working as an Internist. Upon his return to Cuba Dr. Rojas-Diaz completed training in Critical Care Medicine and worked as an attending on an Intermediate Care Unit for the Univeristy Hospital. In 1996 he went to South Africa where he worked for two years at a Municipal Hospital.  In 1998, he came to the US and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Jersey City Medical Center in affiliation with Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Upon his graduation he joined the Infectious Disease Fellowship program at New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens affiliation with Weill-Cornell Medical College. After graduation he spent tow years teaching hospitalist at Jersey City Medical Center.  Dr. Rojas-Diaz is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease. Dr. Rojas-Diaz is chair of Infection Control at Select Specialty Hospital in Edgewood. His area of interest is Tropical Medicine and Infections by multidrug resistant organisms. He joined Florida Infectious Disease Group, P.A. in 2006.
